Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a photographer to elope in Colorado?

Absolutely not! Hiring a photographer is totally optional, but as a professional elopement planner, here is my advice: if you have the budget for a photographer, hire one! A quality photographer who knows weddings will get you photos much better than your cousin’s iphone.

How much is photography for an elopement in Colorado?

Elopement photography packages in Colorado generally start around $1,200 and scale up to $7,000 for more intense packages. Through Colorado MicroWeddings, I work with a team of photographers who offer specialized packages for my couples, which start at $450 for 1 hour.

How do I find a photographer for my elopement in Colorado?

The most common way to find a photographer is by simply scrolling through Instagram looking for styles you like! Alternatively you can use wedding directory sites like WeddingWire, but these tend to be expensive and not suited well for small weddings and elopements. If you use a planning service (like Colorado MicroWeddings), I help you find the perfect photographer for you day!

What does an elopement photographer do?

Elopement photographers are just like regular wedding photographers! They are there on the day of your wedding to help capture those special moments. In addition many elopement photographers also acts as the “coordinator” on the day of the wedding, helping set up the guests and the couple for the ceremony to get the best photos possible.

Do I need a photography permit to elope in Colorado?

It depends on the location! Many parks and mountain overlooks in Colorado will require you to have a permit to elope, your photographer will help ensure you get the permit if needed.

How do I choose the right photographer for my elopement?

When choosing a photographer, the most important thing is that there portfolio is the style you like! The best thing to do is book a photographer who has a style you love, you never want to have to direct a photographer to shoot a style that isn’t their own. Through my planning services I work with a handful of deferent photographers with unique styles to fit your preferences.

Should I tip my elopement wedding photographer?

Tipping in the wedding industry is always optional, of course, but it is quite common! Many wedding vendors that are onsite the day of the wedding (Officiant, photographer, stylist) consider themselves part of the service industry, so tipping the usual %15 for good work is always appreciated.

Why are elopement photographers in Colorado so expensive?

Generally speaking, the majority of wedding vendors book 15 to 20 weddings a year. As such, they need to book large packages at high rates to make their desired annual income. Additionally, the demand for wedding photographers is much higher than the supply, which allows the established options to charge high prices. I created Colorado MicroWeddings to provide couples with an alternative way to find affordable packages with world-class photographers, our packages start at $450 for 1 hour.

What is the best time of day for picturing when eloping in Colorado?

If your doing an outdoor wedding, the best light for photos is starting right at sunrise, or 1.5 hours before sunset. In some areas these times be change based on the mountains causing an early/late sunrise/sunset, in which case it’s best to work with your photographer to time things just perfectly.
